Sunday 3 rd March, at 4:30 pm – Polish Carnival (Shrovetide)
The Irish Polish Society invites you for Polish Carnival ‘Ostatki’ with a concert of entertaining
light music.
In Poland Carnival, or Zapusty – is a season of feasting, drinking, amusements, fancy dress and
dancing into the small hours. It begins after Epiphany and lasts until Ash Wednesday. The last few
days – Ostatki – are the peak of public merrymaking. It is also very much celebrated in most
Continental European countries.
The Polish House is not a ballroom so we can’t dance there, however, there will be a concert of
entertaining light music. Anna Kiselyova – a pianist from the Ukraine – will play pieces of popular
classical music, Strauss waltzes and polkas, Irish music, pop music, jazz and more.
Traditional Polish pączki (doughnuts) and Carnival fritters – faworki – will be served.
Cost of participation (payable at the door):
€ 2 for paid-up members of the Irish Polish Society
€ 7 for non-members
Children free of charge
Everybody welcome! You don’t have to wear a mask and fancy dress like in Venice but do
come and bring your friends!
