LissadellhouseThe Irish Polish Society is organizing a trip to Co Sligo. The main purpose of the trip is to visit Lissadell the beautiful family home of Countess Constance Markievicz.

The proposed date for the trip is

– 16th – 17th July

A special guided tour of the House will be provided for our Society. The tour will take about 45 minutes. The price of the tour is €12 for adults and €6 for children. Included in the price is admission to the Alpine Garden, Victorian Kitchen Garden, also entry to the current Exhibitions. At present there are five self- guided Exhibitions.

Particularly interesting is the 1916 Exhibition. It displays rare documents, copies of historical letters, photographic records, various memorabilia, original manuscripts (among others plans for the Rising written by Countess Markievicz in a Polish notebook!).

The present House was built in the early 1830s. Renowned for its historic atmosphere it contains an interesting collection of objects d’art, painting, furniture, etc. On the walls of dining room are full length murals of members of the Gore-Booth family and staff of the house, painted by Casimir Markievicz, Polish husband of Constance.
