To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Poland’s entry to the EU the Irish Polish Society, with the cooperation of the Polish Embassy in Dublin, is organising a special Seminar and Exhibition. The event is free, open to all and takes place in the Polish House, 20 Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin on Sunday, 16 June from 17.00. The photographs were taken by Constance Markievicz at her Polish husband’s home in Ukraine in the summers of 1902-1903 and are on public display for the first time. Also on display will be documents relating to Constance Markievicz’s Polish citizenship. This will be an opportunity to discuss a unique historical connection between Poland, Ukraine and Ireland as well as to observe the evolving nature of the european relations, from Czesław Miłosz concept of the „Native Europe” to the present European Union with her current problems and security challenges. The seminar will explore the historical context of the documents and the exceptional photographs taken by Constance Markievicz in early 20th Century Ukraine. The Irish Polish Society wishes to thank the Polish Embassy in Dublin, Ognisko Polskie CLG and the Old Polish University in Kielce for their support and inspiration. Among the speakers are: H.E. Polish Ambassador to Ireland, Prof. Arkady Rzegocki, H.E. Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko, Mr Patrick Quigley, Dr Katarzyna Gmerek and Dr Jarosław Płachecki.
