Dear Members and Friends,

After a summer break the Irish Polish Society will resume their activities with
a special Birthday Celebration Concert, on Friday,15th September,at 7:30 p (Polish House).

A piano recital will be given by Soo-Jung Ann, a brilliant Korean pianist.

Her concert in May 2016, in the Polish House (‘packed to rafters’) hugely impressed all who were there.

She will play music by Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and Debussy.

Soo-Jung comes from South Korea but she has strong Polish and Irish connections. After graduating in 2007 from the Korean National University of Arts, she studied with John O’Conor and Thérese Fahy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In 2009 she won third prize in the AXA International Piano Competition in Dublin. She has won numerous prizes at inter- national piano competitions, including first prize in the International Telecom Beethoven Competition in Bonn, Germany, in 2013. On that occasion the Irish media wrote that she brought honour to Ireland and her mentors, John O’Conor and Thérese Fahy, were thrilled.

Her links with Poland are naturally related to her love of Chopin music. Having won 5th prize at the International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow, in 2000 (she was the youngest contestant), she was invited by the Warsaw Chopin Society to give a tour of concerts in Poland, in 2001, at the age of just 13. Subsequently she played several times in Poland as a soloist and with orchestras. She qualified for the second stage of the 17th Inter- national Chopin Piano Competition, in Warsaw, 2015.

Soo-Jung Ann was born on 15 September 1987 and we wish her all the best on the great occasion of her 30th birthday.

A grand birthday reception will follow the performance (Irish-Korean cuisine specialities are expected!)
