Join us this Thursday from 7pm for a special talk on Daniel O’Connell – “The Liberator”, one of the towering figures of modern history: a pioneer of mass politicisation, a champion of participatory democracy, a moral and political leader of rare stature – and an unexpected advocate for the Polish cause. This event takes place during the 250th anniversary year of O’Connell’s birth, making it a particularly timely reflection on his vision and legacy.

In this talk, Dr Adam A. Kucharski (Irish Polish Society / Polish-Irish Historical Studies) explores O’Connell’s passionate engagement with the “Polish Question” – a lesser-known yet fascinating chapter that broadens our understanding of his vision.
Dr Kucharski is an expert on Irish-Polish historical relations and author of Placing Poland at the Heart of Irishness: Irish Political Elites in Relation to Poland and the Poles in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century (2020). He has written extensively on O’Connell, who advocated strongly for Poland in the House of Commons.

The Polish House in Dublin is the oldest Polish institution in Ireland and the home of the Irish Polish Society, Ognisko Polskie, and POSK Dublin. It also serves as a meeting place for the Polish community and as a centre dedicated to Polish culture and national heritage in Ireland.
We host concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and community events, as well as conducting historical research and publishing activities. For nearly 40 years, we have supported Polish community organizations and advanced Polish cultural and public diplomacy in Ireland.
Thanks to funding from the Senate of the Republic of Poland, provided through the “Wspólnota Polska” Association, in 2025 we were able to cover the running costs of our historic building at 20 Fitzwilliam Place. We are currently cataloguing the special collections of the Wanda Petronela Brown Library.

Prowadzimy koncerty, wystawy, odczyty, spotkania a także badania historyczne i działalność wydawniczą. Od blisko 40 lat służymy doświadczeniem wspierając polonijne organizacje oraz polską dyplomację publiczną i kulturalną w Irlandii.
Dzięki środkom przekazanym przez Senat Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej za pośrednictwem Stowarzyszenie „Wspólnota Polska” w 2025 r. opłaciliśmy bieżące koszty utrzymania naszego zabytkowego budynku przy 20 Fitzwilliam Place. Obecnie trwa inwentaryzacja zbiorów specjalnych biblioteki im. Wandy Petroneli Brown.

Polish MPs in Ireland!
On Friday, 5 September 2025, The Polish House in Dublin welcomed a delegation led by Wanda Nowicka, Chair of the Committee on National and Ethnic Minorities, together with MPs Jarosław Sellin, Jarosław Rzepa, and Mateusz Bochenek.
The event, co-hosted by the Irish Polish Society and POSK Dublin in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Dublin, Duszpasterstwo Polskie w Dublinie, Polska Macierz Szkolna w Irlandii (Polish Educational Society in Ireland), Forum Polonia, Together-Razem Centre, and Polsko-Irlandzkie Studia Historyczne, was held to mark Polish National Reading Day. This year’s celebration featured the timeless poetry of Jan Kochanowski.
W Domu Polskim w Dublinie ambasador Artur Michalski i konsul Maciej Wójcik spotkali się z Polonią, rozmawiając o historii i życiu rodaków w Irlandii. Audycja ukazuje, jak niewielka grupa Polaków stała się ważną społecznością, a Dom Polski centrum kultury i integracji. Przypomniano także postacie takie jak Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, Konstancja Markiewicz i Jan Łukasiewicz.
At the Polish House in Dublin, Ambassador Artur Michalski and Consul Maciej Wójcik met with the community, highlighting the growth of Poles in Ireland and recalling figures like Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, Constance Markievicz, and Jan Łukasiewicz.

Casimir Markievicz Paintings and Artifacts Exhibition: This Eshibition is still open for all visitors at Dublin Castle. The project is coordinated by the Polish Embassy and the Irish Polish Society (IPS), and runs until September 2025.
Visit of EU Ambassadors to the Polish House: As part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister for Emigration Colm Brophy and 24 EU Ambassadors (HoM’s) visited the Polish House on 13 May. The meeting was held on the invitation of Poland’s Charge d’Affaires in Ireland, Ambassador Artur Michalski. The IPS Committee was represented by the Chairman Patrick Quigley and Vice Chairman, Jarosław Płachecki. Ognisko and POSK were represented by Dr Janina Lyons and Krystyna Pycińska-Taylor.
Dublin City Council Visit to the Polish House: By the invitation of the IPS Chairman, Patrick Quigley, the Dublin City Council Culture Committee met in the Polish House on Friday 6 June. Patrick gave a talk on the Markievicz family and presented guests with the latest IPS publications. Special thanks to Krzysztof Kiedrowski and Grzegorz Jarocki for their assistance.

- 22 June, Sunday, 6:00 pm. Tamara Niekludow – Piano Recital at the Polish House, Dublin. Programme includes: Noctumes by J. Field, A. Kavanagh, P. Łukaszewski and F. Chopin. Also an opportunity to thank Polish Consul Maciej Wójcik and Aleksandra Wójcik as they leave Ireland after 5 years of service.

- Autumn 2025 Plans: Culture Night (Sept.), Dublin Festival of History and lecture by Dr Adam A. Kucharski, Daniel O’Connell on the Polish Question: “I feel I owe it as a duty to the Poles to mention some of those facts…” (October), the IPS Art Exhibition curated by Marysia Harasimowicz (November), New book release by Patrick Quigley “Saga Markiewiczów” translated into Polish by Dr Katarzyna Gmerek (December).
Ognisko Polskie – Polish House Management Updates:
- 15 June – Inventory of the Wanda Petronella Brown Library. Book cataloguing will follow later this year.
- July-September – Renovation of 17 Windows (200 years old) at the Polish House and extemal yard improvements. Funded by the Polish Senate via Stowarzyszenie Wspólnota Polska.
- 2025- Additional funds granted by the Polish Senate for Utilities and basie maintaining of the Polish House.
