""</a

19-22nd September 2012
The LIR, Pearse Street (at Grand Canal Quay), Dublin 2

Beautiful images meet philosophical quandaries in this exciting new dance work from 50% Male Experimental Theatre - Róise Goan, FESTIVAL DIRECTOR

Choreographed by Anna Gąciarz, ”Chemistry” is a physical/dance theatre show brought to you by 50% Male Experimental Theatre (50% MET) - a multicultural performance group comprising of two females and two males performers from Poland, Ireland and Uzbekistan. Nominated for the Spirit of the Fringe Commissioning Award in 2011, 50% MET presents a unique combination of physical theatre and contemporary dance. Since the company’s foundation in February 2009, the group has successfully presented two shows to date: “Peter Pans” which ran at D-Light Studios (2009), Project Arts Centre (2011); and “Seekers” at ABSOLUT Fringe 2011; Representing Ireland at Dublin Dance Festival (2012), 50% MET gained critical acclaim and a strong audience following from international and local audiences, and are excited to be part of this year’s festival staging their latest show at The Lir from September 19 – 22.

We know that there is something in the air. But what is this ‘something’? Perhaps these things are hard to explain rationally because they relate to our feelings, instincts, emotions and senses. ”Chemistry“- sparks between people, capable of forming relationships and destroying them. Where exactly does this chemistry come from? Where does it lead us to? And can we control its influence on our lives? A tale told through movement, gesture and dance, wrapped in music - this is a story that questions our (ir)rationality.

Founding member Anna Gąciarz is former Artistic Director of VOGUE Dance Company, Poland and has choreographed “Chemistry” to provide the framework for this new dance piece, yet the boundaries of traditional dance are constantly shifting, 50% MET re-interprets the genre by giving their audiences a bold and unconventional approach. It’s a rule-breaker in the making.

Listings Information:
VENUE: The LIR, Pearse Street (at Grand Canal Quay), Dublin 2, map: HERE
