Chopin and Polish Carnival “Zapusty/Ostatki” – Shrovetide. An evening of musical delight, entertainment, and more…

January 30, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Sunday 10th February, 5pm (Polish House – 20 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin 2, Ireland).
A short concert (about 30 min.) of Chopin music will be given by pianist Soo-Jung ANN. Some clips/slides related to Chopin will be shown and commented on. We would concentrate on stories, anecdotes, etc– the idea being to take Chopin a little bit ‘down from the pedestal’ and to show him in a more ‘human’ light. What kind of man was he? His complex personality, his love for fashionable salons, women in his life, etc.
Traditional ‘faworki’ (Carnival fritters) will be served.
Admission free for IPS members € 2 non-members. Everybody welcome!

Soo-Jung Ann, born in Seoul (South Korea) graduated in 2007 from the Korean National University of Arts. She completed her postgraduate studies in Dublin, at the Irish Academy of Music under Prof John O’Conor. Currently she is pursuing her Doctorate in Music Performance at RIAM and is also attending a postgraduate course at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria). She has won several international prizes. In 2000 (at the age of 13) she won the 5th Prize at the International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow. In 2001 she was Gold Prize Winner at International Chopin Competition in Asia. She was semi-finalist in the 15th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005, and she won the 3rd Prize at the 2009 AXA Dublin International Piano Competition. Her concert in the Polish House, in June 2010, hugely impressed all who were present.
