An Evening of Poetry and Music with Anita Jones Dębska author of “Country of the Mind”.

Having lived and worked in Poland intermittently over a period of many years, Anita Jones Dębska has developed a passion for Polish poetry and for translation into English. She has published her own handmade collections of translations from the works of Jan Kochanowski,
Adam Mickiewicz, Jan Lechoń, Leopold Staff, K.I. Gałczyński, K.Baczyński and other Polish poets. She is also the author of several anthologies, as well as collection of poems for children. Anita Jones Dębska was already performing a number of times for our Society in the Polish House, and at the Irish Writers’ Centre. Her performances were always highly enjoyable and popular.

Wide-spanned wings’ : poets of a royal republic

To celebrate Poland’s historical national day, a presentation in English of Polish
verse from the Republic of Poland-Lithuania, which was once the largest state in
Europe. Polish poetry of the late 16th and early 17th century has a freshness, variety
and humanity that can still touch and amuse us and seems to speak directly to our own
times. The poets represented include Jan Kochanowski, Mikołaj Sęp-Szarzyński,
Szymon Szymonowic, Szymon Zimorowic, Daniel Naborowski, Jan Andrzej Morsztyn,
Zbigniew Morsztyn and others from that inimitable republic headed by a king.

Light reception will be served and everybody is very welcome!
