Sunday, 29th September at 5pm (Polish House) – An evening dedicated to the memory of Cardinal Józef Glemp (1929-2013).
Cardinal Józef Glemp who died in Warsaw on 23rd January 2013 was the Primate of Poland for over 28 years (from July 1981 until December 2009). His guidance of the Polish Catholic Church coincided with years of extraordinary historical changes in Poland. These were the years of the Solidarity movement, imposition of Martial Law, the ‘Round Table’ talks, the first partially-free elections after WW2, collapse of the Communist System, transition to democracy and accession of Poland to the EU.
In 1988 Cardinal Józef Glemp together with Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich met our Society members in the Polish House. On 17th September 2006 he was at the inauguration of St Audeon’s church in Dublin dedicated as an official Polish Chaplaincy in Ireland.
As a consequence of his official visit to Ireland in 1988 a parish dedicated to Saint Patrick was established in Warsaw. It is the first, and so far the only parish in Poland with the name of Saint Patrick.

We intend to focus on two main issues related to the late Cardinal Glemp.
· His spiritual leadership
· Historical events in Poland and his place in Polish recent history

The event will be bilingual and it will be illustrated by video clips, CD, and tape recordings.
