Thursday, 11 February 2016 @ 7.30pm

Admission free: all welcome

Captain Jack White was one of the most colourful figures from the Irish revolutionary era. He was born into the elite of the British Empire and decorated for his services in the Boer War. Like his contemporary, Countess Markievicz, he turned against the Empire and worked for revolutionary change. He became a disciple of Leo Tolstoy and travelled the world, forging a vision of inner transformation as a part of genuine social change. In Ireland he attempted to reconcile the Northern Protestant mentality with the traditions of Irish nationalism.

Patrick Quigley is the author of The Polish Irishman: the Life and Times of Count Casimir Markievicz and Sisters Against the Empire: Constance & Eva Gore-Booth.

The lecture is part of the Irish Polish Society’s commemoration of 1916 events.
